Anne Shirley is one of my favorite characters of all time. It has been several years since I read this book, and I just felt like it was time to head back to Green Gables. My daughter was Minnie May in a local production of the play about 6 years ago, and that brought her into the family of those who can't help but love Anne Shirley. This time around, I actually listened to the Audible production of the story, rather than reading the book. Rachel McAdams was the narrator and she did a fabulous job with the voices.
If you don't know the story...Anne Shirley is a very spunky girl with a larger-than-life imagination, and a vocabulary to match. She is adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. They are brother and sister, and have decided to adopt a child to help around the farm. They had requested a boy, but could not have been happier with the way things turned out in the end. They found love and joy that they didn't even know they were missing as they got to know Anne Shirley.
If you have not read this book, please add it to your must read list for 2018. If you have, read it again, you won't be sorry! And if you know a young lady who has not read it, get a copy for her - she'll thank you! Because of Anne's rather large vocabulary, it might be a difficult read for a young reader, but it would be a great story to read out loud together. If you have a long road-trip coming up, get the Audible version. You will enjoy this more than any movie out there! I give it 5 out of 5 stars!
